CUMC's Back 2 School Backpack Collection is, well...BACK! Although summer for the kids is not yet over, it’s never too early to start thinking about the fall, right? Not to mention tackling that dreaded “back to school” list. But for low-income families in our community, the prospect of purchasing backpacks and the supplies their children need to start the school year is stressful, especially when they are struggling with basic needs such as food, rent, or transportation. That need is here in Fairfax County, where there are tens of thousands of children who receive food assistance through FCPS in the form of free and reduced-price meal plans. That is why CUMC is once again partnering with Western Fairfax Christian Ministries to collect backpacks to help the children of families in need at Centre Ridge and Centreville Elementary Schools. Our goal is to collect 160 brand new backpacks by August 12 for each of the students who need one. Can’t make it to the store?
