Hunger Ministries
Society of St. Andrews PDF Print E-mail

The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) is a food rescue and distribution ministry committed to ending world hunger beginning with the elimination of hunger in America.

CUMC continues to support the vision of SoSA through our involvement with their Gleaning Network, Potato & Produce Drops and the Souper Bowl of Caring.

Volunteers Needed: At least 50 individuals are needed to serve at the Potato Drop taking place at Centreville UMC on the morning of Saturday, May 17th 2014.

A tractor trailer loaded with 42,000 pounds (21 tons) of white potatoes will arrive at CUMC. Volunteers will help with setting up, unloading the truck and bagging the potatoes. The potatoes will be picked up by local agencies that provide food to those in need.

Food For All baskets are located around the church where non-perishable food donations are received each Sunday. The donated foods are delivered by volunteers to the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries food pantry each week. Everyone is invited to bring one non-perishable food item each week to help keep the food pantry shelves full throughout the year.

During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, financial gifts and food are collected for two deliveries of Food Baskets assembled and delivered by volunteers to assist needy families in the Centreville community.  300 baskets were prepared and delivered in 2013.
