Music Ministry Opportunities

All vocal choirs begin in September, and all of the choirs welcome new members throughout the singing season. No auditions are necessary.

Singers and Ringers

Creation Choir – Kindergarten Vocal Choir. Directed by Sarah Chambers and Kathy Smith. Rehearsal – Monday 4:45 – 5:25. Creation Choir sings for worship every 6-8 weeks. They participate in a Monday afternoon Christmas program, the 5:00 Christmas Eve service and the May “Spring Sing and Ring.”

Cherub Choir – Grades 1-2 Vocal Choir. Directed by Johannah Evans. Accompanied by Jen Ita. Rehearsal – Monday 4:45 – 5:30. Cherubs sing for worship every 5-6 weeks. They participate in a Monday afternoon Christmas program, the 5:00 Christmas Eve service and the May “Spring Sing and Ring”.

Carol Choir – Grades 3-6 Vocal Choir. Directed by Laura Hesse. Accompanied by Becky Belcher. Rehearsal – Monday 4:45 – 5:30. Carol Choir leads the music at either the 9:30 or 11:00 worship service once a month. They participate in a Monday afternoon Christmas program, lead the music at the 6:30 Christmas Eve service and sing in the May “Spring Sing and Ring”.

Rainbow Ringers – Grades 3-4 Handbell Choir. Directed by Becky Jackson. Rehearsal – Monday, 5:35-6:15. This choir is open to beginning ringers in grades 3 and 4. No music experience is necessary. Rainbow Ringers play for worship 3 – 4 times a year, ring in the Monday Christmas program and the May “Spring Sing and Ring”.

Rejoicing Ringers – Grades 4+ Handbell Choir. Directed by Jason Moon. Rehearsal – Monday 5:35 -6:15. This choir is open to ringers with one or more years of ringing experience. Rejoicing Ringers plays for worship 3 – 4 times a year, rings in the Monday Christmas program and the May “Spring Sing and Ring.

Joyful Noise Ringers – Grades 4-6 Handbell Choir. Directed by Laura Hesse. Rehearsal – Monday 5:35 -6:15. Open to ringers with one or more years of ringing experience. Joyful Noise plays for worship 3-4 times a year, rings in the Monday Christmas program and the May “Spring Sing and Ring”.

Alleluia Ringers – Grades 5+ Handbell Choir. Directed by Jason Moon. Rehearsal – Wednesday 5:45 – 6:45. This choir is open to ringers with 3 or more years of ringing experience. Alleluia Ringers plays for worship 3 – 4 times a year, rings in the Monday Christmas program, and the May “Spring Sing and Ring.”

Voices In Praise – Grades 7-12 Vocal Choir. Directed by Jason Moon. Accompanied by Becky Belcher. Rehearsal – Wednesday 7:00 – 8:00 or, for those who have Wednesday conflicts, Sunday, 12:15 – 1:15. Voices In Praise leads music in worship two times a month, alternating between the 9:30 and 11:00 services. They sing at the 8:30 PM Christmas Eve service. This year VIP will hold a winter lock-in to work on their music and enjoy fun and fellowship together.

Revelation Ringers – Grades 7-10 Handbell Choir. Directed by Becky Jackson. Rehearsal – Wednesday 5:45 – 6:45. Open to ringers with 4 or more years of ringing experience. Revelation Ringers play for morning worship 4 – 5 times a year. They also play for the 8:30 PM Christmas Eve service.

Jubilation – Grades 9-12 Handbell Choir. Directed by Becky Jackson. Rehearsal – Sunday 4:30 – 6:00. Open to ringers with 6 or more years of ringing experience. Jubilation plays for morning worship 5 – 6 times a year and plays for the 8:30 PM Christmas Eve service. They present, with the Good News Ringers, a Handbell Dessert Concert in early spring.

Chancel Choir – Adult Vocal Choir. Directed by Becky Jackson. Rehearsal – Thursday 7:45 – 9:30. Chancel Choir leads morning worship from September through June. They provide music for most of the special seasonal services that the church offers. They prepare special musical events including concerts, cantatas and variety shows.

Agape Ringers – Adult Handbell Choir. Rehearsal – Wednesdays 7:15 – 8:15 PM. Directed by Bev Bissell. This choir rings beginning to intermediate music. They ring in worship 4-5 times a year, provide music for special services and participate in the local handbell festivals.

Good News Ringers – Adult Handbell Choir. Directed by Becky Jackson. Rehearsal – Thursday 6:30-7:30. Open to ringers of intermediate to advanced ringing ability. GNR rings for worship 5-6 times a year and often rings for special seasonal services, including the 11:00 PM Christmas Eve service. They annually participate in the NOVA handbell festivals, hosted by CUMC. They, along with Jubilation, present a Handbell Dessert Concert in early spring.

8:15 Music Team – Directed by Becky Jackson. Rehearsal – 1st and 3rd Sundays 7:00 – 8:15 PM. This vocal ensemble provides music of a variety of styles for the 8:15 service on the first and third Sundays of the month.

11:02 Worship Team –  This vocal and instrumental ensemble provides contemporary music weekly for the 11:02 Connections worship service held in the ROC, the Recreation and Outreach Center. Music Ministry Instrumentalists

The CUMC Music Ministry likes to involve youth and adult instrumentalists in morning worship and special services throughout the year. Those interested in playing solos, participating in ensembles or playing with a vocal choir should contact Becky Jackson at Bjackson@centreville-umc.org or at the church office for more information about opportunities to play.
