Advent Devotion for December 5 with Wayne Brim
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. - Hebrews 10:23
In today’s verse, the author addresses Jewish Christians facing persecution under pressure to deny their Christian belief. They are challenged; “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
Today we too are facing hard times. We’re experiencing hardship, trials, heartache, unknowns and doubt(This is an understatement.). So how do we hold unswervingly, and to what do we tightly grasp and why?
The answer begins his earthly life in a stable, lying in a manger and now sits at the right hand of God. Jesus gave his life for us that we are declared children of God.
Because He tightly holds us, placing us in His heart, we are able to hold tightly to the hope we profess. That Jesus is faithful, keeping His promises. His promises are endless and He keeps them, every single one.
“Come unto me all who are burdened and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die”
“And whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the son.”
So today, and every day lets us profess the hope of Jesus by word and action. In doingso we fulfill Jesus’ words “You are the light of the world.”
Heavenly Father, thank you for unconditionally loving us. Let our light shine brightly, like a beacon in a dark night, pointing to you and your Son. So others will know Him and have enduring hope. Amen.
