Wednesday Devotion with Dixie Mayall
Today's advent devotion was written by Dixie Mayall:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. - Lamentations 3: 22-26
My husband Bill and I walk dogs at the Animal Shelter on Tuesday nights. Since darkness comes early in the winter, we both wear toboggan hats with a built-in light. We really need the lamps that are built into our hats to see where we are walking. Because Bill and I are the only two walking dogs at that time, it is easy to feel alone; but then I see Bill’s light in the distance and I know I am not really alone. I love watching his light move around the dog walking area. I know if I need anything, he is there to help me.
This is like Jesus…the Light of the world. Just as I find comfort in the light I see while walking the dogs, the wise men found comfort in the Star of Bethlehem. Today’s reading reminds us, much like the Magi undoubtedly believed, that “hope is in Him, to the one who seeks him.” When we look up into the sky and see the bright stars, let us remember Jesus and his birth during this most wonderful time of the year as we celebrate the birth of the True Light of the world.
