Saturday Advent Devotion with Kim Wu
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit of God does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline. – 2 Tim 1:6-7
Christmas lights and candles are a little bit magical for me. As an early riser who is up before the sun at this time of year, I relish the time to sit in the quiet with only our Christmas lights shining in the dark. Their glow lifts my spirits when the darkness of this world and all its worries threaten to overwhelm and envelop me in the gloom. I am reminded of the assuring words of John 1:5, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
It is the very presence of darkness that helps us to more clearly see the light, as we wait and hope for the coming of Christ, for the breaking in of His light into the darkness. But we are also called to bring light to this world. Paul reminds us there is a flame of light placed in us, and we are to boldly share it with others. We can do this, if we accept the gifts the Holy Spirit offers us. Shine forth your light, so that others may see how it pierces the dark.
Lord Jesus, help us to reflect your light through our actions and our words. Amen.
