Lenten Reflection Day 29 - by Kim Wu
John 7:37-38 On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’”
In his book, “Come Thirsty,” Max Lucado wrote, “Like water, Jesus goes where we can’t.”
Water, in always seeking a way to find the lowest level, will penetrate through any small crevice to continue its downward flow. Water always finds a way. And water, in its continual and steady work, will create new paths and is capable of completely transforming terrain. Just look at the Grand Canyon’s majesty, and you will begin to understand the power of water.
When Jesus comes to reside in our hearts through the work of the Holy Spirit, He is able to know us as we really are, not through any filters we try to use to make us look better to others. And He is able to transform us in magnitudes and ways that we are not able to do on our own. Like water, He penetrates down into every crevice of our being.
Lord, You have looked deep into my heart, and you know all about me. You know when I am resting or when I am working, and from heaven you discover my thoughts. See if there is any rebellious way in me, and lead me in the ancient way. Amen (Psalm 139:23-24)
