Our Wandering Wise Men - December 6
STAR
They had not fallen asleep, and just when all seemed lost, and not a moment before, in the east they saw a star. And it all came flooding back. All the years of study and the books of the prophets. The Lord was to come and pitch his tent among them. Hope began to stir within them and a sense of purpose resumed.
SCRIPTURE
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him. (Matthew 2:1-2)
I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and batter the brow of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult. (Numbers 24:17)
FOOLISH WISDOM
“Strikingly, we see that God initiates the magi’s seeking by giving them a star. Today, God continues to give us stars to help us seek a godly direction. These “stars” come with different names and in different ways, such as the star of our holy discontent that stirs up a certain restlessness in our lives, the star of our search for what is lasting, and the star of our need for meaning. These stars and others remind us that God has placed eternity in our heart, and we will never be at home until we find our true home in God.” (Trevor Hudson)
If it should ever be that men should fail to preach the gospel, God can conduct souls to his Son by a star. Ah! But not only by a star, but by a stone, a bird, a blade of grass, a drop of dew. Remember that Omnipotence has servants everywhere. (Charles Spurgeon)
PRAYER
Dear Lord, let me seek you and find you as I seek you with my whole heart. Now I know that the star you have given me leads to Jesus Christ and his birth in the stable of my heart. Amen.
