Our Wandering Wise Men – December 18

LAMB

After the baby shower, the three wise men came upon a sheep who had gotten away from its flock.  It was Zebedee, who belonged to the CUMC Children’s ministry.  The lamb told the wise men a story about one time that he got separated from a flock.

SCRIPTURE

What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?  And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!”  I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine who need no repentance.” (Luke 15:4-7)

FOOLISH WISDOM

Melchior was always losing one of his camels.  Balthazar noticed that he would always remain positive when losing his camel, and one time he asked him about it.  “Well,” said Melchior, “I’m very grateful that I wasn’t on the camel at the time.”  A bewildered Balthazar asked him why that made him grateful.  “Well, then I would be lost too!” (adapted Nasreddin folktale)

PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.  Amen.
