Five Years of Library Distributions

In June of 2020 during the COVID pandemic, we began distributing groceries at the Centreville Region Library. For 2 years we offered these distributions weekly, rain or shine. As the pandemic slowed, we moved to 2 twice a month. Then when Western Fairfax Christian Ministries opened their new Centreville food pantry, we were able to reduce to a once-monthly distribution. The need in our community has remained high throughout this time. As recently as last fall we were serving 180+ neighbors at each distribution. Then in January of this year we saw a sharp drop in participation, and the numbers have remained down about 30%. In consultation with our partners at Centreville Immigration Forum, Opportunity Neighborhood Centreville and the International Mayan League, we have been asked to move to a drive-thru distribution model from here at the church. Beginning January of 2026, for the ease and comfort of our neighbors, we will end distributions at the library parking lot and offer them from here at CUMC instead. Through your amazing efforts over the past 5 years we have provided groceries to a total of 20,790 clients (repeat clients duplicated in that number), representing 85,929 household members. Thank you for doing God's work of loving our neighbors by giving them high quality fresh, frozen and canned foods to eat!
