Wednesday Devotion with Joyce Dantzler
The Last Jar in the Pantry
Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your hearts before Him. God is our shelter. Psalms 62:8
My mother-in-law was a faithful and loving servant of the Lord. She was known throughout the community for her wonderful canned items from the garden: beets, cucumber pickles, artichoke relish, tomatoes, peppers, plus numerous preserves, jams and jellies. One of our family favorites was grape jelly that was made from her scuppernong grape vines.
Upon each visit, we were provided with a box full of items from her pantry for our pantry.
When she passed, years ago, I recall our family’s sadness realizing there was only one jar of her jelly left on our pantry shelf. It was difficult to open that “last jar” knowing that there would be no more from “Grandmamma.” Her constant good nature, loving heart, and generosity would be greatly missed.
God does provide as he brought into our lives a daughter-in-law; although a busy professional, one who loves to grow and can items from her garden. So once again, our pantry is overflowing with canned items made with loving hands and heart.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Through You, I have found that missing someone is my heart’s way of reminding me how much I love them. Thank you for Your encouragement and healing of my heart. In all situations, You are our Almighty God. Amen.
