BABY SHOWER
Next thing they knew, the three wise men were swept up in a baby shower for a poor young woman from Nazareth. They played “Guess the baby photo!” with the staff of CUMC (Can you guess whose baby photo is whose?) and Melchior won! Balthazar had his “water break first” when the ice cube around his plastic king cake baby melted fastest. And Caspar collected the most diaper pins because he didn’t say the taboo word “baby.” It was a great time preparing for the coming baby and laughter was had by all.
SCRIPTURE
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age, and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, “Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old? Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And he said, “No, but you did laugh!” (Genesis 18:11-15)
FOOLISH WISDOM
“God is a comedian playing to an audience afraid to laugh.” (Voltaire)
The world loves the spectacular. God has proven that He is certainly capable of the extraordinary, but He often chooses to work through the ordinary and seemingly insignificant. In this way, He demonstrates His love and power. Isaac, Moses, Samuel, John the Baptist and Jesus were all born as answers to a time of need. Throughout history, God’s answer to a critical time was to send a baby. (Henry Blackaby)
“Humor is , in fact, a prelude to faith; and laughter is the beginning of prayer.” (Reinhold Niebuhr)
PRAYER
Laughter 😉 (see above)
