Advent Devotion for December 7 with Bill Mayall
The theme for this second week of Advent devotions is preparation. How do we prepare for the coming Savior, who has already come in the past, comes to us today, and will come again in the future? How do we prepare our hearts to fully accept Him into our lives and to participate in the in-breaking of His kingdom into our world?
Today's advent devotion was written by Bill Mayall:
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. - Revelation 3:20
Faith. How do you define that word? If you are like me, I refer to “my Faith” quite often. However, I often feel like…I know what it is…but I have difficulty putting it into words and describing just what I mean by “my faith.” When thinking about this conundrum, I am reminded of the story that is told of a minister who noticed a little boy holding securely the end of a long string. The attached kite was not discernible in the evening twilight. When the minister asked the boy why he was acting so, the young child said he was flying a kite. “I can’t see it; but I know it’s there, for I can feel the pull.” Christ tells us in today’s Advent Devotional reading to…open the door…let him in. As we prepare for the birth of the Jesus, let us pray…Lord Jesus, let us feel the pull of faith, respond…and invite you in. Amen.
