Lenten Devotion Day 5 – The Lord’s Prayer in Jesus’ Language

Monday, February 27

Matthew 6:7-13

“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“Pray, then, in this way:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be revered as holy.
May your kingdom come.
May your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us to the time of trial,
but rescue us from the evil one.”

Media:  Hear the Lord’s prayer spoken and sung in the ancient Syriac language, which is very similar to Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke.

Response:  Three times today, pray the Lord’s prayer.

Prayer Focus: Gratitude for Jesus’ teaching and example.
